Jackknife Crunch Overview

The Jackknife crunch is a bodyweight exercise that primarily engages the obliques.

It involves lifting the upper body and legs simultaneously, using the body’s weight for resistance.

Jackknife Crunch Instructions

  1. Lie flat on your back with your legs extended and your arms by your sides.
  2. Engage your core by drawing your belly button in towards your spine.
  3. Simultaneously lift your legs and upper body off the ground, bringing your knees towards your chest.
  4. At the top of the movement, reach your arms towards your feet and contract your abdominal muscles.
  5. Slowly lower your legs and upper body back to the starting position, keeping your core engaged throughout the movement.

Jackknife Crunch Tips

  1. Start by lying flat on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor.
  2. Place your hands behind your head, keeping your elbows wide to avoid pulling on your neck.
  3. Engage your core muscles by drawing your belly button in towards your spine.
  4. As you exhale, lift your shoulder blades off the floor, bringing your right knee towards your left elbow.
  5. Focus on twisting your torso and contracting your obliques to maximize the effectiveness of the exercise.
  6. Slowly lower your shoulder blades back to the floor as you inhale, then repeat on the other side.
  7. Remember to keep your movements controlled and avoid using momentum to perform the jackknife crunch.
