Dumbbells Fly Overview

The dumbbell fly is a chest-focused workout that utilizes dumbbells to target the pectoral muscles.

During the exercise, the individual lies on a bench and holds the dumbbells above the chest with arms extended.

With a controlled motion, the arms are lowered to the sides, stretching the chest muscles, then raised back up.

Dumbbells Fly Instructions

  1. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, holding a dumbbell in each hand.
  2. Extend your arms straight out to your sides, parallel to the floor, with your palms facing forward.
  3. Keep a slight bend in your elbows and engage your core.
  4. Slowly bring your arms forward, crossing them in front of your body, until the dumbbells almost touch.
  5. Pause for a moment, then reverse the movement and bring your arms back to the starting position.
  6. Repeat the exercise for the desired number of repetitions.

Dumbbells Fly Tips

  1. Start by lying flat on a bench, holding dumbbells directly above your chest.
  2. Keep your elbows slightly bent throughout the exercise to avoid strain.
  3. Lower the dumbbells out to the sides in a controlled manner, feeling the stretch in your chest muscles.
  4. Engage your chest muscles to bring the dumbbells back up to the starting position, exhaling as you push up.
  5. Avoid locking your elbows at the top and maintain a slight bend for constant tension on the chest.
  6. Focus on the mind-muscle connection, consciously contracting your chest muscles throughout the movement.
